If you’ve recently purchased the MFC-J5920dw multifunction, we’ve got the cartridges. There are four cartridges in the range, LC23E Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. Buy individually or our bulk pack to save.
When should ink cartridges be changed?
The easy answer – your MFC J5920dw will let you know when. A message will appear on the machines display. LC23E cartridges can be replaced individually as needed. In theory, they shouldn’t all run out at the same time.
How many pages can you expect from a cartridge?
Brother LC23E cartridges have an approximate page yield of up to 1,200 pages each. Page yields are measure at 5% coverage.
How to replace Brother LC23E ink cartridges
Open the ink cartridge cover. If one or more of the brother lc23e inks have reached the end of their life, the machine’s display shows
” B&W Print Only or B&W 1-sided Print Only or Cannot Print “.
Press the lock release lever as shown to release the cartridge colour indicated on the machine’s display. Remove the cartridge from the machine.
Open the new ink cartridge bag for the colour indicated on the machine’s display, and then take out the ink cartridge.
Turn the green release lever on the orange protective packing (1) counterclockwise until it clicks to release the vacuum seal. Then remove the orange protective packing as shown.
Tip:
Do not touch the cartridge in the area indicated (2); this can prevent the machine from detecting the cartridge.
Each colour has its own correct position. Insert the ink cartridge in the direction of the arrow on the label.
Gently push the back of the ink cartridge marked “PUSH” until it latches, and then close the ink cartridge cover.
Verify the colour of the replaced ink cartridge according to the instructions on the machine’s display. The machine will automatically reset the ink dot counter.
Newly Installed Cartridge Not Recognised
If a replacement Brother LC23E ink cartridge is not installed correctly, this problem may occur. Follow the steps below to reinstall the ink cartridge:
Hold the ink cartridge vertically so that the label is toward the left side of the machine and insert the cartridge.
Push the back of the ink cartridge marked “PUSH” until it clicks and the lock release lever lifts.
Why do the colour ink cartridges run out of ink even though you rarely print in colour?
A few common reasons. The first being, the cleaning cycle of the machine. Inkjet printers are designed to automatically flush and clean all of the ink jet nozzles. This is performed on a programmed schedule. During the cleaning process, the machine draws out a small amount of ink to remove air bubbles from the cartridge and to remove dust and dried ink from the ink nozzles and channels. This not only ensures premium print quality but also ensures the life of the print head. Because of the ink jet technology, this process is common to all ink jet machines.
Another factor that could be affecting your colour ink consumption is the amount of printing from a computer. Even if the print jobs are black only. Because the MFC J5920dw offers full colour printing, the default setting in the print driver is COLOUR. This means the machine will automatically mix all the colours to produce a selected colour, even black.
If you would like to print from the computer using the black ink only, you need to change the printing preferences to GRAY SCALE, and also select “Plain Paper” at Media Type. If you select other Media Type than “Plain Paper”, colour inks are used.
